Asleep at the Wheel highlights upcoming shows

Jazz jam:
The Northside Jazz Jam will gather at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 29 at Philipose’s Kitchen & Bar in Magnolia.

Community musicians are invited to come and participate in a three-hour session led by local musicians and entertainers Sheri Lavo and Mike Owen. Philipose’s serves American-southern cuisine with Indian influences by chef Brian Philipose.

Mario Kart:
Deacon Baldy’s Bar and Food Trucks and The Adventure Begins Comics & Games team up to offer a Mario Kart Tournament the last Thursday of every month including Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. at Deacon Baldy’s. Entry is $10 and is for ages 18 and up.

Prizes are awarded to the top three winners each month, and the entry fee includes a free drink. Deacon Baldy’s Bar and Food Trucks features more than 30 specialty craft beers on draft and hosts unique food trucks daily.

Dec. 30

Tanner Usrey:
Texas-based singer-songwriter Tanner Usrey will perform at 8 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Rowdy’s Dance Hall in Spring. Tickets are $12 when bought online in advance or $15 at the door.

From Prosper, Texas, Usrey released three singles this year including “Pick Up Your Phone,” a sad song about 3 a.m. drinking and being out on the road in towns no one knows. His song “The Light” appeared on the season four finale of Yellowstone.

Dec. 31

Doug Boggs:
Doug Boggs and the Cowboy Jazz Band will perform at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 at VFW post 2427 in Tomball. Single tickets are $25 or $40 per couple.

Doug Boggs and his Cowboy Jazz Band specializes in traditional country music, but they also perform the blues, 50s rock and western swing and jazz.

Four Freshmen:
The Four Freshmen will perform at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 at The Centrum. Tickets start at $45.

Presented by the Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment, the annual New Year’s Eve concert features selections from the great American songbook by a quartet who also play drums, bass, guitar and trumpet.

Midnight Masquerade:
Sans Souci Ballroom near Tomball presents a New Year’s Eve Midnight Masquerade event starting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31. Tickets start at $150.

The event includes a plated dinner, premium open bar, midnight snack, live DJ, live entertainment, a performance from local cover band The Mockingbirds and a champagne toast to the broadcast of the New York ball drop. The event is for ages 18 and up and the dress code is “dress to impress” and “bring a mask.” Sans Souci Ballroom is a premier wedding and event venue with seating up to 1,000 guests.

Asleep at the Wheel:
Great western swing band Asleep at the Wheel will perform on New Year’s Eve at Dosey Doe The Big Barn in The Woodlands with an opening act starting at 9 p.m. Tickets start at $138 and includes dinner, served until 9:30 p.m.

Asleep at the Wheel has won nine Grammy Awards and has released more than 20 studio albums with 20 hit singles on the Billboard country charts.

Masquerade party:
Whiskey River North is offering a New Year’s Eve masquerade party with drink specials and live DJs. Cover is $10, but free before 10 p.m. if you register on the guest list online.

The event also features a photo booth and balloon drop at midnight.

Ice rink: The Ice Rink at The Woodlands Town Center is open on New Year’s Day from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will be open through Jan. 16.
