The Teaching Kitchen
Learn the secret to healthy, tasty food on Friday at a free cooking class hosted by SIU Medicine.
The event kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 1600 E. Clear Lake Ave.
SIU Medicine dietitian Charlyn Ware will teach participants how to use seasonings and spices to cook healthy, low-cost meals. There also will be taste testing and recommendations for people with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, high cholesterol, and obesity.

Brew Ha Ha features local talent
Laugh your socks off at the Brew Ha Ha comedy show on Friday.
The show starts at 8 p.m. at Buzz Bomb Brewing Company, 406 E. Adams St.
Comedian Trey Elier will headline the show with features from local favorites Rha-Bea and Kate Wooters. Larry Smith will host.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

Bands play Springfield Boogie Fest
Listen to local bands live on Saturday at the Springfield Boogie Fest.
The event runs from 5 to 10:30 p.m in the Blue Grouch Pub beer garden, 510 W. Maple Ave S.
Solar Chariot, Pinch of Grace, and Birds of a Feather will perform Grateful Dead, Phish, and original music.
Food and drinks will be available. Admission is $10.

Dance the night away
Salsa, Cha Cha and more with the Hispanic Women of Springfield at Latin Nights on Saturday.
The dancing starts at 9 p.m. at Casa Real Cantina and Grill, 1121 Lincolnshire Blvd.
DJ Gringo will play Latin rhythms and there will be drink specials. Food will be available for purchase. There is a $10 cover charge.

Pop Up at Pasfield
Shop, eat, and support local businesses at the Pasfield Pop-Up on Sunday.
The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Pasfield House, 525 S Pasfield St.
A variety of vendors will have items available ranging from art, clothing, jewelry, accessories, catering, and more. Door prizes, giveaways, and a silent auction also will be part of the event.
