THE Reading and Leeds Festival is back for another year with a range of musicians on the star-studded line-up.
The two festivals take place simultaneously, despite Reading being in the southwest of England and Leeds being in the north, and rotate their line-ups.
Who is performing a secret set at Reading Festival?
The 2023 Reading Festival is taking place at Richfield Avenue between August 25-27.
Headliners include Billie Eilish, Sam Fender, The 1975, The Killers, Foals and Imagine Dragons.
Also playing are Wet Leg, Central Cee, Inhaler, Steve Lacy and Knucks.
Though fans head to the festival in droves for the previously-announced line-up, secret sets are becoming more popular.
Secret sets are acts that are announced shortly before the festival begins – or sometimes even when it has already started.
Soft Play, the punk band formerly known as Slaves, have confirmed they’ll play Reading on Saturday, August 26 and Leeds on Sunday, August 27.
They confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: “Surprise we’re playing @OfficialRandL.
“Bloody hell can’t wait for a coupla ciders and a giant Yorkshire pudding if you’re coming see ya there xxxx.”
Bombay Bicycle Club will also be performing a surprise set at Reading Festival.
They announced the news of their Friday afternoon set just hours before, writing on social media: “Back at @OfficialRandL for the first time in 9 years.
“The first time we opened the festival in 2007 the gates hadn’t opened when we went on, so hopefully we’ll see more of you there this time.
“We can’t wait to see you there tomorrow.”
Who is performing a secret set at Leeds Festival?
The 2023 Leeds Festival is taking place at Bramham Park in Leeds on the same weekend as Reading Festival.
Girl in Red, the Norwegian singer-songwriter whose real name is Marie Ulven Ringheim, appears to have been accidentally confirmed for a secret set at Leeds Festival.
According to Ticketmaster, she will perform at Bramham Park over the weekend, as well as at Reading.
She has not previously appeared on any line-up announcements.
A spokesperson for Girl In Red has reportedly denied that she’ll be making an appearance at either festival, according to NME.
Following their Saturday, August 26 set at Reading, Soft Play will head to Leeds to take to the stage on the Sunday of the festival.
Bombay Bicycle Club, however, are only playing Reading as part of their secret set.
