Ellie Goulding hit in the face with burning pyro

Ellie Goulding was in a state of shock after she was hit in the face by pyrotechnic as she performed onstage at a festival in the UK over the weekend.

The British singer was belting out her new song Miracle when a pyro flame went off at the wrong time and blasted in her face at the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth on Sunday.

According to the Mirror, the 36-year-old was heard screaming “f**k” and holding her face as she ran away from the pyro machine.

The 36-year-old was performing in front of a crowd of 170,000 festival-goers, who were there to see Goulding and other big acts including, Mumford & Sons, Raye and Kasabian.

While the singer has yet to address the technical error, she did share a photo “dump” on Instagram with a message of hope.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this but- keep going! Love you x,” she captioned the photos.

Goulding is not the only artist to have a pyrotechnic go off in her face.

In July last year, American rapper Lil Durk was injured when he walked through an onstage explosion while performing at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Video from his performance went viral at the time, showing the 30-year-old covering his face and catching his breath, yet he somehow managed to finish his set.

Lil Durk – real name Durk Derrick Banks – later took to Instagram to share a photo of himself in the hospital with bandage covering his eyes.

“Due to the incident that happened at Lollapalooza in Chicago on stage, I’ma take a break & focus on my health,” he wrote in the caption. “I finished my performance yesterday for my fans. Appreciate y’all.”

That same month, Dua Lipa also had a close encounter with unauthorised fireworks at her concert in Toronto when, towards the end of her show, a concertgoer threw some pyro into the crowd, injuring three people.

“It was at the end, during her final song, and confetti was already out, so we thought it was part of the finale,” one attendee told People magazine at the time. “No one was fazed by it other than the people in the pit, [but it was] hella scary.”

The 28-year-old later apologised to fans for the incident in a statement shared on Instagram.

“Creating a safe and inclusive space at my shows is always my first priority, and my team and I are just as shocked and confused by the events as you all are,” Lipa wrote.

“There is an ongoing investigation into the events being conducted, and everyone involved is working hard to find out how this incident occurred. Bringing this show to life for my fans has been such an amazing experience, and I’m so deeply sorry for anyone who was scared, felt unsafe or whose enjoyment of the show was affected in any way. All my love, Dua.”
