When Branden Sipes realized one day that his dad had an electric guitar, he fell in love with the ability to make sounds from the instrument’s strings and learn how to play songs that he loved growing up. His parents were already musical, listening to music around the house, and his mother would even occasionally pull out the acoustic guitar. However, it wasn’t until this seminal moment that a fire was lit inside Sipes, and he realized he wanted to pursue the instrument for a living.
His dad, despite having quit playing in a band professionally, resumed the instrument and taught him how to play the guitar. Eventually, Sipes signed up for the show choir at school, attempting to learn as much about playing the guitar and singing as possible and become the best musician he could possibly be. He cites James Taylor and The Eagles as groups that his parents would play around the house. However, around the time he started listening to music, he became interested in grunge and rock bands such as Nirvana, Weezer, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
After signing up for choir, he became exposed to classic standards of musical theater, jazz, and show tunes, soaking up all that he could to be a well-rounded musician instead of just focusing on rock. He graduated from Colorado State University in 2006 with degrees in classical guitar and classical voice. He loves being able to express himself performing live, creating a sound that he’s proud of, and allowing other people to enjoy the sound that he creates.
