Mimiyuuuh, Sharlene San Pedro, Sheena Halili on why Filipinos love Blackpink so much – Manila Bulletin

These celebrity Blinks share their Blackpink experience

If we are going to do a list of the top South Korean girl groups that made waves in the Philippines, Blackpink will definitely be one of the acts that dominate the list. Since the group’s debut, Filipinos of different gender and age can’t help but dance to the beats of its music and rave about its every appearance and style moment. Blackpink, which is composed of Jennie Kim, Lalisa Manobal, Jisoo, and Rosé, continues to make history today by being the first K-pop group to headline Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Filipinos have been superfans to a number of K-pop girl groups since the 2000s. But their passion for Blackpink is something truly remarkable. During the launch of cookie brand Oreo’s collaboration with the “Born Pink” singers, Manila Bulletin Lifestyle got a chance to chat with celebrity Blinks, the act’s official fandom name, as they share why Filipinos love Blackpink so much.

Actress Sharlene San Pedro believes that it is because of the members’ personalities. Another factor is Blackpink’s dedication to its craft. As for her favorite Blackpink song, the young star loves “The Happiest Girl,” as it is different from what the girl group has been producing before.

Bihira silang magballad. For me, it gives me chills kapag naririning mo lang yung boses nila na wala masyadong beats (They seldomly do ballads. For me, it give me chills just hearing their voices without so much beats),” she says. “Hindi siya upbeat. Talagang napakaganda (It is not upbeat. It’s very beautiful).”

Sheena Halili may have been new to becoming a Blink, but her love for the girl group is deep as it is connected with her motherhood journey. During her pregnancy days at the height of the pandemic, the group’s music was one of the things that gave her joy, so much so, that her daughter and husband also became big fans.

Nakakarelate ako dedication nila (I can relate to their dedication),” the actress and mother says. “Napakaganda nilang example sa lahat ng artist na mahalin nila yung work and maging mahusay.  They deserve the love.  (They are such great examples to artists when it comes to loving their work and getting better at it. They deserve the love).”

As for social media personality Mimiyuuuh, she loves the aura the group is serving on the stage and also their personal style.

Nagstart po ang aking Blink journey noong nag-debut sila (My Blink journey started on the day they debuted), Mimiyuuuh says. “I really love YG Entertainment. Noong nag-relase po sila ng bagong girl group, Blackpink, sobrang na captivate po ako, especially dun sa single nilang ‘Boobayah.’ It really changed the game of K-pop (I really love YG Entertainment. When they launched a new girl group, Blackpink, I was so captivated, especially by their single ‘Boombayah.’ It really changed the game of K-pop).”
