Circles Around the Sun

Circles Around the Sun

Circles Around the Sun (CATS) is an instrumental rock band known for their mesmerizing jams, intricate arrangements, and cosmic soundscapes. Formed in Los Angeles in 2015, the band initially served as the house band for the Fare Thee Well concerts, a series of Grateful Dead 50th anniversary celebrations. The original lineup of Circles Around the Sun included guitarist Neal Casal, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Dan Horne, and drummer Mark Levy. Circles Around the Sun gained widespread acclaim for their improvisational prowess and their ability to create music that transcends genres. Their sound is deeply rooted in the improvisational spirit of jam bands like the Grateful Dead, but also incorporates elements of psychedelic rock, jazz, and electronica. The band's compositions often feature intricate guitar melodies, lush keyboard textures, and pulsating rhythms, creating a sonic landscape that is both atmospheric and immersive. Tragically, Neal Casal passed away in 2019, leaving a void in the band's lineup. However, Circles Around the Sun continued to honor his legacy and carry on his musical vision, recruiting guitarist Eric Krasno to join the band. With Krasno on board, the band released their third studio album, "Circles Around the Sun," in 2020, further solidifying their reputation as one of the most exciting instrumental bands on the scene. Circles Around the Sun's music is characterized by its sense of exploration, freedom, and adventure. Their improvisational approach to performance allows them to create unique and captivating musical experiences that resonate deeply with their audiences. Whether they're performing live or in the studio, Circles Around the Sun continues to push the boundaries of instrumental music, inspiring listeners and fellow musicians alike with their boundless creativity and infectious energy.
