Jeff Tweedy is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer, best known as the frontman and principal songwriter of the alternative rock band Wilco. Born on August 25, 1967, in Belleville, Illinois, Tweedy grew up immersed in music, learning to play guitar at a young age and eventually forming his first band, The Plebes, in high school. In the late 1980s, Tweedy co-founded the influential alternative country band Uncle Tupelo with his friend Jay Farrar. Uncle Tupelo released four albums before disbanding in 1994, with Tweedy and Farrar going on to pursue separate musical paths. Following the breakup of Uncle Tupelo, Tweedy formed Wilco, initially as a collaboration with other former members of Uncle Tupelo.
