One of the most exciting young bands in progressive bluegrass is headed to Philadelphia. Mountain Grass Unit will play Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 8 PM as a key stop on their late autumn Appalachian Smoke Tour, which supports their debut studio album of the same name on Dualtone Records. The date is an 18 and over show at the indoor club and entertainment room in the Fishtown neighborhood, and it is set to be a high energy night for folk traditionalists and jam band fans alike.

Who Is Mountain Grass Unit

Mountain Grass Unit is an acoustic quartet from Birmingham, Alabama, whose original members built their bond through childhood jam sessions. The lineup features Drury Anderson on mandolin and vocals, Luke Black on guitar, Sam Wilson on upright bass, and Josiah Nelson on fiddle. They have won the IBMA Momentum Award for Band of the Year, and they are known for a high energy jamgrass style that blends traditional bluegrass flatpicking with forward looking improvisation.

The Album and the Road

Appalachian Smoke, the band’s first full length studio album, was produced by six time Grammy winner Vance Powell and released in late August. The thirteen track record includes guest appearances from Anders Beck of Greensky Bluegrass, fiddler Michael Cleveland, and pedal steel player Karl Smakula. The band celebrated the release by making its Grand Ole Opry debut on August 26th, an invitation delivered by Del and Ronnie McCoury at DelFest in May, and followed with an album release show at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville the next night. The Appalachian Smoke Tour runs from September through November 22nd, with festival stops at Earl Scruggs Music Festival, Hillberry, and Suwannee Hulaween, and a Panic en la Playa appearance in January 2027.

The Mid Atlantic Run

After Philadelphia, the band moves quickly through the region. They head to New York for a two night stand at the original Brooklyn Bowl on November 13th and 14th, followed by a stop at the Royale in Boston on November 15th.
