Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Map Out Late Year Concept Sets With Rotating Local Horn Sections
The Baltimore funk jam quartet has finalized a run of specialized theater dates built around extended segues and brass players hired in each city they visit.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong have never been a band that does things the simple way, and their late 2026 plans prove it. The Baltimore funk jam quartet has settled on a handful of specialized, theme driven theater dates that put the emphasis on long, collaborative segues rather than a standard night of songs. Instead of carrying a permanent brass section on the road, the band is bringing in underground funk and brass players local to each market, and those rotating horn sections are meant to become part of the show itself, weaving between the group’s original funk material and spur of the moment mashups.
Horns Hired City by City
The idea is as practical as it is musical. A fixed horn section locks a band into a single sound, while a local one changes the character of every room, and the Pigeons plan to lean into that unpredictability. The sets are being designed around smooth, continuous transitions, the kind that make a jam band show feel like one long thought, with the guests helping glide from one groove into the next. For the players, it is a chance to share a stage with one of the busiest bands on the circuit, and for fans it means that no two of these shows will sound quite the same.
The Dates That Anchor the Season
The run leans on several marquee stands and holiday blocks as part of the band’s Fall Tour 2026. It begins on Halloween night, October 31st, at The Observatory North Park in San Diego, with support from Dizgo. In November the band settles into Brooklyn Bowl in New York for three nights, November 19th through the 21st, with Telula, Sqwerv, and Slap Dragon on the undercard. December brings a three night standalone capital run, December 3rd through the 5th, split between The Atlantis and the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. The year closes out in Boston with a two night holiday block on December 30th and 31st, first at Brighton Music Hall and then at the Citizens House of Blues, with Big Blitz opening the first night and TAUK joining to ring in the new year.
The pairing of intimate and larger rooms in Boston suits the concept. The smaller Brighton Music Hall gives the band room for experimentation, while New Year’s Eve at a bigger venue is the natural place for the full spectacle.
