Bob Weir’s Blue Mountain Gets a 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, and a Rare Live “Peggy-O” With John Mayer and Matt Berninger Offers a First Taste

Unearthed from the 2016 Campfire Tour at the Wiltern, the preview track pairs Weir with a guest filled band ahead of the November 20 release.

Release: November 20, 2026 Label: Rhino Preview: “Peggy-O,” Wiltern Theatre, October 10, 2016

A decade after Bob Weir made a cowboy songs record that surprised even longtime fans, Blue Mountain is getting the deluxe treatment. Rhino is preparing the Blue Mountain 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition for release on November 20th, 2026, and to build anticipation it has unearthed a live performance of the traditional song “Peggy-O,” recorded during Weir’s intimate Campfire Tour at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The track is previously unreleased, taken from a live soundboard recording, and it arrives with a guest list that makes it feel like a once in a lifetime night.

A Wiltern Night in October 2016

The performance was recorded on October 10th, 2016, and features Weir on vocals and guitar with surprise turns from two guests. Matt Berninger, the frontman of The National, joins on vocals, and John Mayer adds electric guitar. They are part of the Campfire Band, which includes Steve Kimock on guitar, Jon Shaw on mandolin, Josh Kaufman on Wurlitzer electric piano, and The National’s rhythm section of Scott Devendorf on bass and Bryan Devendorf on drums. The song carries extra history: the Grateful Dead made “Peggy-O” a standard of their own, and The National later recorded a version for the Day of the Dead tribute album.

A traditional song, a living room sized tour, and a stage full of friends from the rock and roll world.

What the Deluxe Edition Adds

The reissue, curated by Rhino, marks ten years since the original release, which was Weir’s first solo album in nearly forty years. It expands the cowboy songs project with material pulled from the archives, including unreleased recordings from the Blue Mountain studio sessions and live soundboard cuts from the fall 2016 Campfire Tour. Among the known extras are the live “Peggy-O,” a live “Lay My Lily Down” from the same Los Angeles show, and a previously unreleased studio track called “The Ground Don’t Want Me,” a Weir original that did not make the final album and features John Mayer on guitar. Live audio is also slated from stops in Port Chester, New York, in October 2016 and in Dallas, New Orleans, and Mobile in April 2017. A full tracklist has not been announced.

Producer Josh Kaufman, who co produced Blue Mountain with Weir, has said the anniversary edition has really brought him back to the feeling of making the record. The Campfire Tour itself was a stripped down fall 2016 run that found Weir connecting with younger artists from outside the jam scene, and the Wiltern recording captures that spirit at its warmest. Weir died in January 2026 at the age of 78, which gives this reissue and its unearthed performances added weight for the many fans who loved his music.
